Top medical colleges in Gujarat

Government, GMERS, municipal and private MBBS colleges — with the NEET-based admission route for each.

Every MBBS and BDS seat in Gujarat is filled on the basis of NEET UG. What differs between colleges is which counselling fills the seat and what you pay: government and GMERS colleges are filled through the Gujarat state quota conducted by the state admission committee, deemed universities are filled through central MCC counselling, and private colleges have both state-quota and management-quota seats. This guide groups Gujarat's leading medical colleges by that route rather than publishing one ranked list.

How medical admission works in Gujarat

  • NEET UG is the only entrance: qualify NEET, then register separately for Gujarat state counselling (85% state quota) and, if you want national options, for MCC's All India quota (15%).
  • Domicile matters: the state quota needs Gujarat eligibility — usually schooling in Gujarat plus the required domicile documents. Read the current information booklet before registering.
  • Three fee bands: government and municipal colleges are cheapest, GMERS colleges sit in the middle, and private/deemed colleges are highest. Compare the full course cost, not year one.
  • Verify approvals: confirm the college and its annual intake on the National Medical Commission's list of recognised colleges — intake and recognition change every session.

How to shortlist your own list

  1. Start from your NEET score and last year's closing ranks for each category, not from reputation alone.
  2. Prefer an attached hospital with a heavy patient load — clinical exposure is what makes an MBBS good.
  3. Work out the total cost including hostel and any bond before you fill choices.
  4. Fill a long, honest choice list: leaving out mid-preference colleges is how seats get lost.
  5. Keep BDS, AYUSH, BSc Nursing and allied-health options in mind as parallel routes.
